FAQ

  • How does it work?
  • How well does it work?
  • How quickly does it work?
  • Look, I'm really worried about these rodents - how can I make sure I get them out really quickly?
  • What other products do you sell? I really want a humane solution...
  • What about my pets?
  • Where should I plug it in?
  • Why not just use traps or poison?
  • Is it really safe?

Unlike many other repellers on the market the PestBye Whole House Rat and Mice repeller combines both ultrasonic and electro-magnetic technology.

Ultrasound is a loud noise at a high frequency: it's too high for humans and domestic pets to hear, but is thought to be audible to most rodents. We imagine that, for a mouse, it's like having a smoke alarm going off constantly.

Whenever electricity passes through a wire, an electromagnetic field is created: it has been suggested that electromagnetic fields create an environment where rodents are less likely to nest. Rodents are likely to move away from a house where they cannot nest.

For every 1000 sold, we've had less than 2% returned as ineffective.

We hope that most problems will disappear within a few days. However, if the rodents have already built a nest in your house, they are unlikely to desert their young until they are old enough to move

Fortunately, rodents mature quickly and the babies will be fully grown within a month. If you suspect that there is a nest in your house it may be worth using traps as well, but remember that traps alone do not provide a long-term solution to your problem (see Why not just use traps and poison?)

If money's no object then there's no doubt that the more you throw at the problem, the better. Combine 2 or more devices with single room-by-room ultrasonic devices.

We stock a great range of Humane traps, both lethal and non lethal, to use with the 'Whole House' device

Our Rat and Mouse pest repellers have not been found to affect cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, amphibians or children. The device may affect rodent pets such as gerbils, hamsters or chinchillas.

If you do have such a pet, it's advisable to rehouse them while the device is switched on - either outside/in a shed (at least 2m away from any wiring connected to the house) or with a friend or neighbour.

Either in the kitchen or alternatively where you see most rodent activity. If you want to find where the mice or rats are coming from then try using our Rodent Tracker Dust to ensure optimal placement of your repeller.

Traditional methods leave a lot to be desired. Poison is a danger to children, pets and wildlife. The rodents die in your walls and ceilings leaving a bad smell and a dangerous hygiene problem.

However, by far the biggest weakness of traps and poisons is that they very rarely provide a long term solution to your problem: as soon as you've killed a mouse or rat, you've created a vacancy for another one to move into your house. Because they breed so fast, it's very difficult to achieve a permanent solution using the expensive methods offered by your local council or pest controller: if you've had rats or mice once, the chances are that more of the beasts will frequently be sniffing around your property looking for a nice place to live. If you leave traps or poison, you're also leaving a highly-scented bait that will attract more rodents in.

Our Rat and Mouse pest repellers will not affect any electrical equipment like computers or burglar alarms.

"We have had a problem with mice running around noisily in the void above the ceiling in the kitchen. We have not been able to find out how or where they get in, neither have the 'experts' we've called in.This has been going on for some time, virtually daily. After a week with the repeller plugged in a socket in the kitchen as suggested and hearing no movements from above the ceiling, we suddenly started to hear noises in the hallway adjoining the kitchen, all part of the same extension. We moved the Repeller to a socket in the hall to see what would happen. It has now been three weeks and we have heard nothing at all since then from either room. I have no idea how this works, it's just a box with a flashing red light but it seems to have solved our problem, so we are very happy!"

"As advised, it took 2-3 weeks before the mice left, but they have gone! I had a few families living in my ceiling and walls- cheaper repellers had worked within the house, but couldn't permeate the walls etc. I can tell that the electric pulse is going through the wiring because I can see the led bulbs on various chargers etc pulsing in time with the repeller... I can't believe how well it has worked! Great to have a safe and environmentally friendly option for dealing with the furry rascals."
