Overview

A bulbous perennial garlic chive herb. A close relative of ordinary chives, and used in just the same way to flavour cooking, garlic chives have flattened, strappy leaves and a pleasantly garlic taste particularly when leaves are snipped off young. The big healthy clumps come back year after year, and in late summer the starry white flower heads are a real bonus, much loved by bees. The flowers can be eaten too: pick just after they open and sprinkle on salads for a pretty and spicy garnish.

Care guide

Alliums are drought tolerant and watering plants grown in the ground is not usually necessary. Plants dislike summer irrigation because this may cause the bulbs to rot, however plants in containers may need supplementary water. Deadhead spent flower heads at the base and divide congested clumps after flowers and foliage has died down. Avoid excessive moisture from late summer when dormant.

Pots and Packaging
Our 9cm pots are given extra packaging to protect the plant. This extra packaging consists of a recyclable plastic blister pack which is then placed in a cardboard box for delivery.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.
