A sun loving amigo from the deserts of Mexico
The Yucca is a characterful sun-loving plant that conjures up imagery of sandy dunes and blazing sunlight. They are great for beginners as long as they can be given a position in the house with plenty of sun. These architectural plants originate from the deserts of Mexico. A thick curved trunk culminates in an explosion of sword-shaped leaves that shoot out in all directions. In the wild, they can reach over 20 feet tall and take on more of a shrub-like habit. New growth comes from the sides of the trunks before turning upwards, promoting a more bushy head for the plant. These plants are perfect for the sunniest parts of your home to mimic their desert origins.

Yucca plants are simple to care for when set up in a good position. A bright spot with lots of sun throughout the day is ideal. The plant can even be moved outside in warm bright summer weather to help encourage new growth.
Overwatering is the easiest way to kill a Yucca so water on the side of caution. The soil should be moist from Spring to Autumn. Make sure you have good drainage and never allow the plant to sit in stagnant water as this can cause root rot.
You can add a liquid plant feed to the water twice a month in the growing season.
