1ft 'Pink Lemonade' Blueberry Bush | 2L Pot

Flavoursome blueberries with a striking appearance

A relatively new variety of blueberry introduced in 2005, 'Pink Lemonade' is a cultivar that is sure to get your guests talking. You may have thought it was a prerequisite of a blueberry to have well… blueberries but the pink lemonade rips up the rule books in that respect.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking these are a gimmicky attempt at being different for different sake - these blueberries have the most wonderful, distinct flavour and really are an interesting fruit to have in your garden. The plump, pink berries produce a flavour quite different to other blueberries with that nostalgic tangy taste of actual pink lemonade! You won’t find these berries in supermarkets so grow your own and share them with friends and family. This is a very attractive plant too and looks great in a container on your patio.

The rise in the reputation of the blueberry as a superfood has also led to a great increase in popularity. The fruits are packed full of vitamin c and antioxidants and are much more palatable than some of the other superfood alternatives. Blueberries go great with cereal or as part of a smoothie and can make a great tasting jam too.

Our soft fruit plants are carefully checked by our fruit nursery experts prior to despatch to ensure they are up to size and in perfect condition.

Larger orders are packed into specially made, extra thick cardboard boxes with innovative inserts that hold your plants in place to prevent any damage in transit.

Small orders for bare root plants are carefully wrapped and then sent in padded mail bags for delivery in the large letter postal service where there are no larger items capable of causing damage.

Key is to regularly water newly-planted plants, at least bimonthly for two months. It is also important to ensure adequate spacing (1-1.8m) between bushes, depending on whether your variety is a dwarfing half-high, or another more vigorous type of blueberry.

Dig a hole twice the radius of the rootball. Before planting, drench the rootball. Place the pot in the hole, ensuring it sits no lower than an inch below ground.

Fill the hole with a mix of ericaceous compost and garden soil, and add fertiliser and mycorrhizal fungi. Do not compress the soil. Give your plant a good watering. Add mulch on top whether bark and wood chippings, compost, manure, leaf-mould and stones. Make sure mulch doesn't touch the stem.

Blueberry plants are extremely easy to grow. Below we address some common queries:

  • Hardiness: blueberry plants originate from North America, which have far colder winters than than UK.
  • Position: in the UK, the greatest barrier to successful fruiting is a lack of sunlight, so planting in full sun is recommended, although blueberries will tolerate light shade. Planting your bush in a sheltered spot will help prevent uprooting and allow it to put more resources into fruiting.
  • Soil Types: blueberry plants are suited to acidic soils below 5.5pH. pHs above this will reduce the amount of nutrients a plant can absorb. You can increase the acidity of your soil by watering with rainwater and using pine needles and ericaceous compost as mulch. With chalky soils, you are better off planting in pots, filling it with ericaceous compost. It is important to avoid waterlogged soils, which starve a plant of oxygen, which plays a key role in photosynthesis, cause its roots to rot and create the perfect environment for many diseases.

"About your recent delivery I was very disappointed with the plants both of the Blueberry Pink Lemonade ( pink sapphire 2L) plants were damaged. I had bought 3 plants from you and all 3 were stacked one on top of the other in a tall box. The bottom plant had had the majority of it's leaves and several stems broken off if I had seen this plant in the shop I would left it there and walked on by, it just looked like a couple of twigs stuck in a pot. The other one had a lot of it buds and leaves knocked off as well. The third plant was fine I think you were pushing the boat out to far by putting all 3 plants in one container. I will think twice before buying from you again."
