A garden and allotment favourite, the solanum tuberosum "Picasso" potato plant produces huge yields of waxy-fleshed tubers. Bred from the "Cara" potato, the Picasso has the same smooth, light yellow skin with striking pink eyes. It is popular with growers due to its good all-round disease and drought resistance. With its mild flavour and good firm texture, his versatile potato has a range of uses in the kitchen, and is particularly good for baking and mashing.
Potatoes are easy to grow. Below we address some common queries:
Soil Preparation: ensure the soil is well-drained and dig in plenty of manure.
Planting Distance: plant seeds around 25cm (10in) apart, around 10cm (4in) deep into the soil. Rows should be around 75cm (2ft 6in) apart.
Pest Control: take precautions against cutworms, slugs, wireworms, and potato cyst eelworms.
Watering Requirements: water regularly, particularly during dry spells.
