Succulents make excellent plants for beginners as they're easy to care for and provide a wide mixture of shapes and colours. This Haworthia is very easy to achieve success with. Its thick leaves form a tight clump and spike out in all directions and the dark green foliage has ribs that run along the leaves, earning this plant the common name of 'fairy washboard'. Like most succulents this plant will thrive best with lots of sunlight and the main thing to avoid is overwatering. The robust nature of these plants means you can be very inventive with the containers that you grow them in. As long as it has adequate drainage you can grow a Haworthia in anything from a standard pot to a teacup or a shoe.

The Haworthia is very easy to take care of and only a couple of simple rules need to be followed to get success. In terms of lighting you want to give this plant as much light as possible so a windowsill is usually ideal.
When watering the plant you must avoid getting the leaves wet as this can cause them to rot. Water around the edge of the plant, allowing the water to run right through the soil and out of the drainage holes of the nursery pot, leaving the water 10 minutes or so to sink through before returning to the display pot. Leave the top few inches of soil to dry between waterings.
