The classic evergreen topiary box ball is perfect for adding an ornate touch to your garden. They work well in containers or borders and are a great addition to any door way or path. It forms a dense plant with its small, round green leaves and is easy to grow in most soils. Plants can easily be kept tidy and shaped by regular clipping during the growing season. Buxus microphylla 'Faulkner' is superficially similar to Buxus 'sempervirens' but its smaller and denser growth habit makes it more suitable for topiary shapes. It also has better disease resistance including resistance against box blight a fungal disease that causes leaves to turn brown and fall off and which causes dieback on young stems. It has the benefit of excellent autumnal colour with the foliage turning a gorgeous russet colour.
This adaptive box hedge will grow in almost all soils, and thrives best in partial shade. It can be planted or repotted all year round. Ensure that the area where you are going to plant is clear and weed-free.
