2kg "King Edward" Seed Potatoes

First introduced to the UK in 1902, the solanum tuberosum "King Edward" is one of the oldest varieties of potato. These potatoes are recognisable by the distinctive pink markings around the eyes on their light brown skin, and their creamy flesh has a light, floury texture. Rated one of the best tasting potatoes, the King Edward is the classic potato used for Christmas roasties, however they can be used for all purposes (aside from salad). The plants have good overall disease resistance, and have excellent resistance to slugs.

Potatoes are easy to grow. Below we address some common queries:

  • Hardiness: protect potatoes from the frost.
  • Planting In Pots: suitable for growing in planters or bags, but make sure excess water can drain.
  • Position: plant in the sun with partial shade for best results.
  • Soil Types: plant in fertile, well-drained soil.

Soil Preparation: ensure the soil is well-drained and dig in plenty of manure.

Planting Distance: plant seeds around 25cm (10in) apart, around 10cm (4in) deep into the soil. Rows should be around 75cm (2ft 6in) apart.

Pest Control: take precautions against cutworms, slugs, wireworms, and potato cyst eelworms.

Watering Requirements: water regularly, particularly during dry spells.
