The Blue Passion Flower is a highly unusual and exotic semi-evergreen climber. From July to September it blooms and produces gorgeous large white flowers with central filaments of purple and blue surrounded by dark-green glossy foliage. This is followed by egg shaped orange fruit which is edible but is not particularly tasty as the Blue Passion Flower is mainly grown for its showstopping flowers.
A vigorous grower this hardy plant will easily cover a trellis, wall or fence. It is happiest placed in a sheltered spot in either the full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil.
Blue Passion Flower has been awarded the Award of Garden Merit given by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), which helps gardeners make informed choices about plants.
Application
To use simply add half a cap to a 9 Litre watering can.
Caring and Maintenance
Passion Flowers need to be supported to be able to climb and thrive. Where possible place them next to a trellis or fence. They do not need to be pruned but it can help to encourage growth and keep the growing vine in control. In spring remove dead stems. Passion Flowers need to be watered especially during dry spells.
Planting
Passion Flower plants can be grown in containers and also planted in the garden. They are fast growing climbers that will thrive in both the full sun or partial shade. Their vigorous habit means that they can become a nuisance. They should be planted in soil that is moist and well drained with a pH level of 6.5-7.5. They benefit from having a layer of organic mulch in the soil.
