2-3ft 'Muscat Blue' Grape Vine | 3L Pot | Outdoor
Black muscat variety perfect for creating aromatic wine
‘Muscat Blue’, often seen as ‘Muscat Bleu’, is a modern mildew-resistant grape producing large, tasty, juicy fruit in an eye-catching blue-black colour with dark red flesh. As its name suggests, the grapes have a rich, muscat flavour, with a nutmeg bouquet.
It’s one of the most reliable outdoor-fruiting varieties but still performs well under glass in colder regions, producing fruit of commercial standard. Plants need a fertile, well-drained soil in a sheltered site (south or west-facing) in full sun - a wall or pergola is ideal.
Bred in Switzerland, ‘Muscatel Blue’ is ideal for the organic gardener, thanks to its resistance to fungal diseases and Phylloxera, the blight of most vines. It is classed as an early grape, maturing August/September, with a medium to good yield.

- Before planting, drench the rootball.
- Place the pot in the planting hole, making sure that it sits no lower than an inch below the ground.
- Fill the planting hole with a mix of compost and garden soil, finishing with fertiliser and mycorrhizal fungi. Take care to not compress the soil.
- Provide your plant with a generous watering.
- Add mulch on top, (whether bark and wood chippings, compost, manure, leaf-mould, and stones). Try to keep the mulch from touching the stem.
- Hardiness: While grapes originate from the Mediterranean and Central Asia, they are hardy enough to survive the UK's winters. However, they can sometimes suffer from frost damage. To avoid this, try to plant them in a south-facing location.
