A characterful plant that can fit into any collection

The rubber tree plant is an impressive variety for any plant collection. It's also easy to care for, so it's a great house plant for beginners. Called a tree for good reason, outside in their natural environment these plants can grow to over 100 feet tall with 6 feet wide trunks! Thankfully they won't reach these heights when potted indoors but you'll love their large beautiful glossy leaves which you can only get from a smaller plant. New growth is a thrill to watch as leaves emerge in sheaths which are eventually dropped as the leaf unfurls. NASA has also rated the rubber tree plant as one of the best plants for purifying the air.

The leaves of this variety are a beautiful variegated style of pale green and white with the distinctive red stem running along the back of each leaf.

Sustainability is at the heart of our ethos and we have done everything we can to ensure that all of our products are as sustainable as possible, be it our plastic free, fully recyclable packaging, GM free seeds or ethically sourced compost.

Rubber tree plants are happiest in bright light but not so direct that they might be scorched by the sun. A little way back from a window in a bright room is ideal.

Originating from monsoon regions of Asia the rubber tree will benefit from a good drenching of water in the summer. Allow the water to run right through the soil and out of the drainage holes of the nursery pot, leaving the water 10 minutes or so to sink through before returning to the display pot. This can be done once a week in summer but should be reduced in winter.

The large leaves can get a little dusty which can affect growth so just wipe them down with a damp cloth occasionally; this will also help keep them nice and glossy!
