A vibrant Clematis producing deep-purple blooms, with beautifully crinkled margins

Flowering between the months of May and September, this Clematis (The President) will bear rosettes of deep-purple petals, adorned by slight pink undertones, and charmingly crinkled borders. Trailing beautifully around a trellis or pergola, this variety of Clematis is ideal for enriching your Summer garden with vibrancy, where it will form the beautiful accompaniment to 'The First Lady' variety. To ensure that your Clematis flourishes, we advise you to plant in soil that is moist, yet well-drained, that additionally experiences full sun or partial shade.

Pots and Packaging
Larger pots (2L and above) are wrapped in waxed paper and then attached to a cardboard base so they stay stable in the box. The waxed paper prevents the compost from spilling out and gives the base some added protection from damp compost. For large numbers of plants, pallets may be used for shipping.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.

Plant on Arrival
Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above.

How your order will arrive
Clematis is an easy to grow plant. Its growth and output will likely be excellent providing you follow our planting and care instructions. Below we address some common query topics:

  • Hardiness: Clematis plants can be found growing throughout temperate regions, so are well accustomed to the UK’s climate.
  • Position: Clematis prefer full sun but will suffice in partial shade. Evergreen varieties need shelter and herbaceous varieties need sunny spots.
  • Soil: Soil types can be an unwelcome confusion as many plants will adapt to their conditions. Nonetheless, less than ideal conditions will certainly limit your plant’s growth. Waterlogged soils will starve it of oxygen, which plays a key role in photosynthesis; causing its roots to rot and creating an optimal environment for disease.
  • Pots: Choose a pot that is around 50cm deep and be sure to apply mulch. When the weather warms up, make sure that you water your clematis regularly.

Advice on hot and droopy plants

If your plants are looking a little wilted right now, don’t worry! Plants like to be filled with water to keep their structure, and when it’s hot that water evaporates.

Just give them an off-schedule watering and they’ll be right as rain in no time! Be careful not to flood them - plants don’t like extremes.

Whether you are opting for Honeysuckle, Wisteria, or Jasmine, there exists a climbing plant that is perfect for every garden. Their growth and output will likely be excellent providing you follow our planting and care instructions. Below we address some common query topics:

  • Hardiness: The climbing plants we stock will are well accustomed to colder environments, so they are perfectly suited to the UK’s weather.
