Delavay Honeysuckle | Lonicera similis var. delavayi | 3L Pot
Easy to grow, and more resistant to mildew than other Lonicera varieties, this Delavay Honeysuckle will make an unfailing focal point in your garden. From June to September, it becomes laden with cream trumpet-shaped blooms, which release a divinely sweet fragrance. This scent only intensifies as night draws in; a feature that Honeysuckle is very much known for, and some of the most prestigious perfumes have tried to emulate this sensuous transition. As each flower matures, they will gradually turn gold too, making your landscape only more beautiful as the weeks pass!

As we recommend with all plants, you should regularly water your Honeysuckle once planted, ideally for the next few months.
When planting, dig a hole twice the circumference of the pot. Ensure that the pot sits roughly level with the soil, with the graft point above the soil. Fill the remaining space with a mix of compost and garden soil. Make sure that you firm down the soil, but not so you are compressing it down.
Lovingly grown by our trusted nursery, your climbing plant will be delivered right to your doorstep. This approach means that you will receive nursery fresh plants that were on the growing table one day, and at your door the following! Our expert nursery have spent decades perfecting the art of watering, feeding, and pruning climbing plants and will do so until hours before they are packed.
Each plant has been grown on a cane and is later expertly packaged into a specially designed, extra thick cardboard box. They will then be sent via a delicate courier network to prevent any chance of damage in transit.Honeysuckle plants are perfect for the beginner grower. Their growth and output will likely be excellent providing you follow our planting and care instructions. Below we address some common query topics:
- Hardiness: Honeysuckle can be found growing throughout temperate regions, and will therefore be hardy in the UK climate.
- Position: Honeysuckle prefers full sun but will suffice in partial shade.
- Soil: Soil types can be an unwelcome confusion as many plants will adapt to their conditions. Nonetheless, less than ideal conditions will certainly limit your plant’s growth. Waterlogged soils will starve it of oxygen, which plays a key role in photosynthesis; causing its roots to rot and creating an optimal environment for disease.
- Pots: Opt for a pot that is around 50cm deep, and be sure to apply mulch. When the weather warms up, make sure that you water your Honeysuckle on a regular basis.

Pots and Packaging
Larger pots (2L and above) are wrapped in waxed paper and then attached to a cardboard base so they stay stable in the box. The waxed paper prevents the compost from spilling out and gives the base some added protection from damp compost. For large numbers of plants, pallets may be used for shipping.
Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.
Plant on Arrival
Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above.

Advice on hot and droopy plants
If your plants are looking a little wilted right now, don’t worry! Plants like to be filled with water to keep their structure, and when it’s hot that water evaporates.
Just give them an off-schedule watering and they’ll be right as rain in no time! Be careful not to flood them - plants don’t like extremes.
