A big leaf plant with little care needs, great for beginners

The Philodendron is a great houseplant that provides big impact with only a little required care. An ideal plant for beginners, Philodendrons now survive in varied conditions all over the world and can be found from the tropical Americas to Australia. The name comes from joining the Greek words for love (Philo) and tree (Dendron) and we're certain that having a love tree in the house can only be a good thing. The generous sized paddle shape leaves will fill any space with ease so are an excellent choice for interior design, maybe situated on a bookcase or mantle. This Imperial Red variety will be happy anywhere with bright filtered light and a little humidity. The Imperial red has darker green leaves than it's similar Green variety and has the added feature of a stunning red underside to its leaves.

We believe that anyone, regardless of ability can successfully grow their own plants at home, and do so in an eco-friendly and sustainable way.

Everyone should have the chance to experience the benefits that plants bring to our lives, and we have put a lot of effort into making sure that all of our products are easy to grow, even for beginners.

Sustainability is at the heart of our ethos and we have done everything we can to ensure that all of our products are as sustainable as possible, be it our plastic free, fully recyclable packaging, GM free seeds or ethically sourced compost.

Philodendrons were originally located in tropical regions of the Americas and West Indies so we want to try and emulate these bright, warm and humid conditions as much as we can. Place the plant in bright but filtered light perhaps a little way back from a north facing window.

These plants also benefit from good humidity so mist the leaves regularly with a spray bottle.

You can water the Phildendron once a week during the growing season, reducing this to let it dry a little in winter. When watering, allow the water to run right through the soil and out of the drainage holes of the nursery pot, leaving the water 10 minutes or so to sink through before returning to the display pot.
