A tropical variety with beautiful colour and movement

Calatheas are among the most beautiful tropical plants you can add to an indoor collection with a wide variety of colours and patterns available. As tropical plants, they can be a little fussy over their care but getting a few things right from the start will set you up for success. This Calathea Medaillon is a stunning variety with large round leaves with variegated green ripples running through the green leaves. The undersides of the leaves provide further interest with a deep contrasting shade of purplish red. The plant will grow best in warm, humid and well-lit conditions with the temperature being a key element. Position your Calathea in a room with lots of bright but indirect light that won't experience too many extreme temperature changes. These plants also have the common name of 'Prayer Plant' for the lovely reason that at night the leaves will close and open again during the day; this feature ensures you get a great view of both the red underside and white top of the leaves.

Sustainability is at the heart of our ethos and we have done everything we can to ensure that all of our products are as sustainable as possible, be it our plastic free, fully recyclable packaging, GM free seeds or ethically sourced compost.

Monsteras are happiest in bright light but not direct sun as this will cause their leaves to yellow. A little way back from a window in a bright room is ideal.

Water once a week, adding in a liquid plant feed once a month through summer for an added boost to growth. Allow the water to run right through the soil and out of the drainage holes of the nursery pot, leaving the water 10 minutes or so to sink through before returning to the display pot. This can be done once a week in summer but should be reduced in winter.

Mist the leaves When temperatures in the house rise due to summer or winter heating.
