Also known as the Norwegian maple, Acer platanoides trees are a fixture of parks throughout the United Kingdom due to their hardiness and tolerance of pollution. Either round headed, or pyramid shaped, platanoides produce a fantastic shape and work well as a centerpiece. Fast growing and long-living, platanoides can live to a whopping 250 years!
Meaning "resembling the plane tree", platonoides refers to the species' serrated five-lobed leaves, not dissimilar from the London plane. Primrose stocks two cultivars, the stunning purple-leaved 'Crimson King' and the variegated Drummondii, easily recognisable for its cream-edged leaves.
