A charming perennial and foliage plant, perfect for autumn interest
Actaea simplex 'Brunette' is a unique-looking perennial, known for its spikes of small white flowers and brownish purple foliage. Aside from having a pleasant fragrance, these blooms will also some lighter hues to your autumn landscape; making a nice change to the richer colours one may be used to.
However, these flowers do feature a subtle purple flush over the buds, which harmonises beautifully with the leaves.

Watering: During your perennial or alpine's first growing season, you should provide them with frequent waterings. Try to also avoid wetting the foliage to reduce the risk of disease.
Deadheading: To promote a long flowering period, you should deadhead any flowers that appear spent. Simply rescind each flower at their base, taking care to not cut other parts of the plant.
Dividing: To really flourish, your perennials can be divided every three to four years. They can be divided when they begin to show less flowers, or appear less healthy in the middle. Make sure to only do so when they aren't currently flowering.
Please note: Herbaceous perennials can die back in winter, so don't be alarmed if this happens and instead look forward to spring!
Advice on hot and droopy plants
If your plants are looking a little wilted right now, don’t worry! Plants like to be filled with water to keep their structure, and when it’s hot that water evaporates.
Just give them an off-schedule watering and they’ll be right as rain in no time! Be careful not to flood them - plants don’t like extremes.
