Step by step: Installing aggregates
A simple but effective way to refresh your space, creating a relaxed spot to pause and unwind.
STEP 1
Choose the location
Select your area and ensure it has good drainage. A benefit of aggregates is that they are permeable so they help to slow runoff when there are periods of heavy rainfall. Outline your boundaries and then level the area.
Prepare the ground by removing grass, weeds, and debris from the area. Dig down about 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) to create a base.
STEP 2
Install a weed membrane
Lay a weed membrane over the entire area to prevent weed growth while allowing water drainage. Cut and overlap sections if necessary, securing them with stakes or larger stones.
STEP 4
Spread the pebbles
Pour and evenly spread your chosen pebbles to a depth of about 5 cm. Use a rake to distribute them smoothly. You can lightly walk over the pebbles or use a tamper to settle them. Add more if needed to maintain even coverage.
STEP 5
Maintain the area
Occasionally rake and remove debris to keep the space looking tidy. Prevent your pebbles from straying into flower beds or pathways with the use of flexible garden edging for a neat finish.
Add your choice of seating, and some attractive outdoor lighting and finish off with a couple of statement plants for your stylish outdoor relaxation area.
