Quick-growing and hardy, Hedera Helix 'Goldheart' features masses of deep-green leaves, that are etched by undulated stains of yellow. The green margins of each leaf are further complemented by delicate white variegation, softening the contrast of this plant's yellow and green tones. This Ivy proudly carries the Royal Horticultural Society's 'Award of Garden Merit' which evidences this plant's reliable performance, good form and constitution, and resistance to pests and diseases. This plant is excellent for both attracting and sustaining wildlife; providing food and shelter for insects, birds, and small mammals.
To use simply add half a cap to a 9 Litre watering can.
Caring and Maintenance
Ivy plants can be trimmed back in spring to control their growth. As groundcovers, you may need to train the vines to grow in the direction of the area that you desire it to cover.
This plant will not require watering for most of the year, but watering regularly during dry, hot periods is recommended. Like for many plants for shaded areas, you should take steps to minimise snails and slug damage, especially during wet periods.
Water the ground well before planting as Ivy likes to be planted in very moist soil.
Dig a hole approx 2.5 times the size of the rootball. The hole should be just deep enough to accomodate the rootball of the plant. If planting multiple plants, space them around 12 inches apart.
Place the plant into the hole, backfill with soil, firm lightly and prune back the plant to 6-10 inches above the ground.
Add some compost to the backfilled soil and surrounding area but avoid fertilising the plant for at least 3 months after planting. Once they are established you can fertilise with an all purpose fertiliser once every 1-2 months during spring and summer.
