Cupressocyparis Leylandii 'Gold Rider'
6ft Cypress Topiary Swirl | Cupressocyparis leylandii 'Gold Rider' | 35L Pot
One of the most brightly coloured out of all the golden conifers, ‘Golden Rider’ is certain to make a beautiful ornamental piece in any garden! Less vigorous than most other conifers it is rarely used as hedging but is great for maintaining its trimmed spiral shape. Place flanking a doorway or on the patio for a natural golden glow all year round!
Leyland Cypress will grow in almost all fertile, well drained soils. Try to plant in a sunny site sheltered from cold drying winds.
Containerized Leyland Cypress can be planted all year round, when the hedge is dormant and energy from photosynthesis is put into root growth. Ensure that the area where you are going to plant the hedge is clear and weed-free, you can then mulch with stones or bark. Always plant to the same depth as the container it arrived in.

Advice on hot and droopy plants
If your plants are looking a little wilted right now, don’t worry! Plants like to be filled with water to keep their structure, and when it’s hot that water evaporates.
Just give them an off-schedule watering and they’ll be right as rain in no time! Be careful not to flood them - plants don’t like extremes.
- Light Requirements: Full sun
- Soil Requirements: Well-drained soil
- Moisture: Well-drained
- Planting Distance: 60-90cm
You can trim your Leyland Cypress tree immediately after planting by trimming any shoots or branches that break the shape of the hedge. This encourages new growth to ensure the tree grows as thickly as possible and should be done twice a year. Once the hedge is established and mature the hedge should be trimmed up to three times during the growing season (April – August).
After planting it is important to ensure that your Leyland Cypress is well watered but not soggy or waterlogged to help ensure root establishment. New trees are likely to need soaking once or twice a week but this can be more often during hot weather. This is essential for the first year after planting.
