Deluxe SK5 Carbon Steel Hori Hori Trowel with Leather Sheath

Hori Hori knives are multi-functional landscaping tools with curved blades originating from Japan. Traditionally used for foraging Sansai (vegetables growing in the wild) in the mountains, the Hori Hori trowel has become an indispensable gardening tool around the globe.

The Deluxe SK5 Carbon Steel Hori Hori blade with Leather Sheath from Maruyoshi is one of the strongest and most beautiful gardening tools currently available. Featuring one straight edge and one serrated edge on the blade it's perfect for cutting and slicing, sawing and hacking. The blade and the ergonomic handle are perfectly balanced to reduce wrist fatigue. The blade's center is engraved with millimeter markings to help gage depths which is useful for a number of tasks in the garden such as bulb planting.

It cuts and scrapes weeds, roots and vegetables. Ideal for cutting roots, transplanting, removing stubborn plants, sod cutting and dividing perennials. The protective sheath is ideal for protection while not in use but also protects you while you carry it around the garden.

Can be used for digging, sawing, chopping, measuring, right through to hunting and fishing. The blade itself is polished to a beautiful mirror quality shine and the handle is riveted for heavy duty use so you can work with your Hori Hori trowel time after time without fear of wear and tear.

What does Hori Hori mean?

The Hori Hori trowel is a versatile garden tool with origins in Japan where "hori" ホリ is the onomatopoeia for the sound of digging. This means "hori hori" would literally translate as "diggy diggy". It has many other names in Japan to reflect its versatility whether you use it for hard work or just for odd jobs in the garden. Elegant and sleek but also robust and versatile.

Made in Japan

Maruyoshi take great pride in the blades they craft and each is manufactured using SK-5 High Carbon Blade Steel for superior edge retention. The blade is tempered to provide long lasting durability so you can reap the benefits of this beautifully crafted trowel year after year. The blade is riveted to the traditional wooden handle for added security.

Unique Design

Most Hori Hori Knives are constructed of a steel blade and a wooden or plastic handle. The unique manufacturing methods used in crafting the Deluxe SK5 Carbon Steel Hori Hori blade makes it more durable than other knives. There is no seam between handle and blade for water or debris penetration and therefore will not degrade over the years as others may. Both blade and handle are toughened for hard use.
