Double Petal Yellow Water Lily - Nymphaea 'Joey Tomocik' - 1L Pot
This water lily will thrive in a depth between 50cm and 1m and has a spread of up to 1.2m. It is a hardy perennial plant with delightful double petal flowers which grow on long, upright stalks. They bloom from June to September and their flower heads open during the day, attracting pollinators. After the flowering period, the flower heads are followed by tiny fruits which emerge from beneath the water surface. The fruits drop from the stalks when mature, float on the water surface, and burst, releasing the seeds. Its orbicular green leaves float on the water surface, thanks to numerous air chambers in the lamina and petiole, and densely grown short hairs which cover the underside of the leaf.

Water lilies prefer still water but can withstand a mild flow, such as a slow moving river, however they should not be planted too close to waterfalls and fountains. Planting aquatic plants and lilies is not difficult. Lilies should be planted in special mesh baskets with a minimum capacity of 5L. Using mesh baskets for aquatic plants also helps to control the growth of the plant as they spread rapidly through a number of rhizomes, creating new colonies. The baskets should be filled with aquatic soil (sold separately) and topped with a thin layer of gravel to help prevent the soil from washing away. Young water lilies should be started in shallow water and lowered gradually over several weeks for the best planting results.
This plant is suitable for zone 4 of a pond.
Caring and Maintenance:
Water lilies are very low maintenance plants. Remove dead leaves and faded flowers before they start to rot to maintain the condition of water and reduce the algae growth. They are self-seeding plants which can be also be propagated by rhizome division. It is easy to keep the growth of the plant under control, as cuttings of wandering stems can be made at almost any time of the year.
The water lily grows in the deeper part of the pond and is undoubtedly queen of ponds and water gardens. Its lovely flowers refine the look of the pond whilst its floating leaves create a good shelter for fish and other aquatic life. They are also valuable plants for reducing algae growth.
Please Note: the plants will arrive ready to be placed directly in the pond.
