4 Elephant Garlic Cloves
Although the name would suggest otherwise, allium ampeloprasum Elephant garlic is not actually garlic, but a stem leek. It looks like a giant garlic bulb with a white skin, and the flavour is similar to conventional garlic but milder. However, the cloves are much larger, and have a variety of culinary uses, and are particularly good for roasting. Elephant garlic plants are around three feet high, and has leaves typical of allium plants.
Planting Tip - Protect crops from birds by covering them with netting or a cloche.

- Planting in Pots: You can grow your Elephant Garlic in pots at least 20cm (8in) in diameter and depth.
- Position: Plant in full sun for very best results.
- Soil Types: Your garlic can be planted in any type of soil.
- Soil Preparation: Dig in plenty of compost or well-rotted manure before planting.
- Planting Distance: Plant shallot sets 8 - 15cm (3 - 6") apart, and 3cm (1") deep so the tip is showing. They should be organised in rows that are 30cm (12") apart.
- Pest Control: Ensure good soil sterilisation, rotational practices, and crop nutrition to reduce the risk of pests.
- Watering Requirements: Water regularly, especially during dry spells.
