A beautiful and very hardy Fargesia with new culms that have attractive rusty reddish sheaths and a clumping root system. This new introduction is proving to be one of the most hardy and versatile clumping bamboo in the landscape and has become an instant favourite with landscapers and garden designers.

This bamboo is extremely hardy and easy to look after and once planted will provide you with a hassle free statement piece to add an oriental charm to your garden. The new culms leaf out early in the summer, making it an excellent choice where its rapid growth is desired. Oriental Charm

Fargesia rufa is an excellent, easy to care for, statement piece. It has wonderful, thin, light-green leaves which contrast nicely against the new culms which have a rusty tint. Originally grown in western China, it has a wonderful oriental charm and would look brilliant as part of a garden that incorporates other influences from East Asia. It can be matched with other plants from that part of the world including Japanese Flowering Cherry Trees and Acer Trees.

Size, Shape and Uses

As Fargesia rufa is a medium size bamboo plant it is brilliant for growing in pots. The slender canes gently arch under the weight of the evergreen leaves and its dense, bushy habit makes it an excellent architectural plant. It is easy to see why it has become such a favourite with garden designers. It is perfect for using as a separator and would also look good used as a small hedge. Planting and Care

Place in either a sunny or shaded area in a sheltered spot away from cold, drying winds. This bamboo will thrive in any soil as long as it is moist but has good drainage. Water young plants regularly until established. Remove weak, dead, damaged or spindly stems in spring. Cut out any flowering shoots promptly to discourage more from forming.
