  • What's the difference between the types of reed screening?

Standard reed screening is made from canes which vary in thickness between 3-6mm, with the average on each roll 5mm.

Thick reed screening looks more like bamboo because it's made from wider canes. They vary between 8-10mm, with an average width of 9mm.

  • Shop our garden screening rolls

Garden screening rolls are perfect for gardens that don’t have much space for a fence as well as offering the perfect backdrop when you’re entertaining friends or chilling out. For more options to allow more light through or for a contemporary style, browse our willow screening and artificial rattan screening.
  • Is bamboo or reed screening better?

Reed, bamboo, bark, fern, artificial rattan, and willow all have their own special traits, so this depends on personal preference and what you generally want from your outdoor screening. Reed and bamboo fencing look very similar but are made from different materials. Bamboo screening is thicker whereas reed has thinner canes and a cheaper price tag – reed fencing is a cheaper way to quickly achieve privacy that bamboo can offer.

At Primrose, standard reed screening is made from canes which vary in thickness between 3-6mm with an average width of 5mm. Thick reed screening looks more like bamboo because it's made from wider canes and varies between 8-10mm, with an average width of 9mm.

  • How long does reed fencing last?

Reed fencing can be expected to last around 15 to 20 years – just make sure you maintain them properly. As reed is an organic material, colour can fade over time, so apply a light brushing of water every now and again to keep it looking better for longer.
  • Can you cut reed screening to size?

If your reed garden screening is bigger than what you’d prefer, you can cut them to your desired width by trimming with pincers. To adjust the height, simply cut with cutting and pruning tools. Just make sure you measure how much you want to cut off because it won’t grow back!
