Fruit Benefits

These fruits taste best when freshly picked from their branches and should be eaten or made into wine within a few days of harvest. They please even the most sophisticated of palates, and can be made into jams, preserves, desserts, wines or can be stored for up to 2 weeks in the fridge. Freshly picked fruit will bring your desserts or wine to life with a flavour that simply can't be matched by mass produced, shop bought fruit. When planning your garden, try to choose varieties with fruits that ripen from early summer to late autumn to ensure a constant supply of fresh fruits throughout the warmer months.

Climbing Habit

This grape vine is not just useful for producing tasty, juicy grapes. It can also be used as an ornamental plant to add interest to your garden. With its vigorous climbing habit and the ability to reach a few metres in height and width it can look incredibly impressive. This is especially true in the summer when large clusters of grapes appear along the vine. It is easily trained up over a wall or trellis and looks great with its gorgeous green foliage in the summer that changes to a lovely golden-yellow in the autumn. Planting and Care

Grapes prefer well-cultivated and well-drained soil, with a pH of 6.5 - 6.8. They do best in full sun, but well sheltered conditions. Sandy gravel over chalk is an ideal growing site. Dig a hole at least twice the size of the root ball. Ideally mulch with compost or rotted manure. Firm the bush in well before watering. Cut vine back to 2 or 3 healthy buds to help with the growing process. You should plant your grapes in early spring, March time if you can, though late autumn could be fine if the weather isn't too cold. Keep a planting distance of 1.2m - 1.5m with 1.5m - 1.8m between rows

Grapes are pretty drought tolerant, however it is best to water thoroughly in dry spring and summer conditions. Remove any weeds or rocks and place a mulch around the plant in winter if you would like to avoid further weeds.
