Grey's Sedge | Carex grayi
Native to North America, Carex Grayi is a grass-like wildflower that forms an upright clump of leathery, fresh, green leaves. Its subtle flowers are followed by large, showy, star-shaped seedpods that add an interesting touch to flower arrangements. It is a deciduous grass that thrives at moist borders or at watersides.

Cover seeds thinly and keep moist. Seedlings should be potted on and grown in singly. Grow in clumps for a more rapid establishment of large specimen.
A perennial is a plant that lives for more than two years. Perennials are flowering plants which grow and bloom over the spring and summer and then die back every autumn and winter. They typically grow structures that allow them to adapt to living from one year to the next through a form of vegetative reproduction rather than seeding.
Perennial plants often have deep, extensive root systems which can hold soil to prevent erosion, capture dissolved nitrogen before it can contaminate ground and surface water, and outcompete weeds. They grow very well in conditions that are poor in resources due to their earlier emergence in the spring, and the development of larger root systems which can access water and soil nutrients deeper in the soil.
Advice on hot and droopy plants
If your plants are looking a little wilted right now, don’t worry! Plants like to be filled with water to keep their structure, and when it’s hot that water evaporates.
Just give them an off-schedule watering and they’ll be right as rain in no time! Be careful not to flood them - plants don’t like extremes.
Carex Grayi will grow well in moist or wet soil in a partial shade position. Prepare the flower bed by using a garden fork or tiller to loosen the soil. Prepare a hole for the plant, place the plant in the hole and carefully yet firmly fill in with loose soil.
