Containerized Italian Cypress can be planted all year round, when the hedge is dormant and energy from photosynthesis is put into root growth. Ensure that the area where you are going to plant the hedge is clear and weed-free, you can then mulch with stones or bark. Always plant to the same depth as the container it arrived in.

Caring and Maintenance

After planting it is important to ensure that your Italian Cypress is well watered but not soggy or waterlogged to help ensure root establishment. New trees are likely to need soaking once or twice a week but this can be more often during hot weather. This is essential for the first year after planting.

You can trim your Italian Cypress tree immediately after planting by trimming any shoots or branches that break the shape of the hedge. This encourages new growth to ensure the tree grows as thickly as possible and should be done twice a year. Once the hedge is established and mature the hedge should be trimmed up to three times during the growing season (April – August).
