Laburnum x watereri 'Vossii' (Golden Rain) - 9L Pot

An unforgettable sight to behold if trained over a pergola, the Laburnam x Watereri 'Vossi' (or Golden Rain) is a broad-crowned deciduous tree that takes a shallow rooting habit. Its gorgeous long yellow racemens glimmer in the sunlight, perfectly contrasting its deep green oval ternate leaves. This beautiful, hardy tree has a spreading crown and is highly scented.

The Golden Rain tree is a perfect addition to any garden, if trained over a pergola or planted as a specimen tree. Although this tree is known to be toxic to humans, the effect is more than likely to be a tummy upset if consumed.

    Q:Does Height Really Matter?

A: Not As Much As You Might Think...
One stand out specification that customers often use to judge the value of a tree is the height. So should height directly correlate with the price of a tree? No, not necessarily.
To an extent the height of a tree can give you a good indication of its maturity but you must not forget: To grow a productive, well shaped, healthy tree you must prune it back regularly, especially when young.
Our trees often grow up to 2m in the fields before we prune them back and package them ready to send out. This pruning encourages the tree to grow more, stronger branches and ensures there is a good balance between the root size and top growth. This ensures that your tree puts energy into establishing a healthy root base instead of supporting top growth, providing a better foundation for your tree in the future.
So, in summary: Don’t let the extra 10/20cm you may find elsewhere sway you. You are likely to be paying extra for the delivery costs and, if you want a healthy tree in the long run, you’re going to have to chop it off anyway!

    Caring and Maintenance

Water young trees regularly until roots are well established. Trim annually from mid to late summer. Apply some fertilizer in spring in order to promote healthy growth and a good crop. Optionally, mulch in spring. Check tree ties regularly and loosen any if necessary to avoid rubbing of the stems.

    • Planting Distance: 3.6m

Suited to almost all, well-drained and moderately fertile soils with pH between 6.5 and 7.5 in an exposed or sheltered location in full sun.
Before planting your tree, clean up all wandering weeds and keep a clean ring around the tree base. Water well during the first year until well established.

Autumn is the best season for planting trees, as the soil moisture and heat allow easier and faster root establishment and regeneration of damaged root systems.

Growth 3 Months After Planting In June

This is an example of our polypot - note the fruit/ornamental trees we stock will vary in appearance according to species and season.

"Both trees were very wilted. We watered them straight away and planted them the next day. One tree was practically dead in the morning. The other had perked up a bit, but a lot of the leaves had been curled up and I noticed that it had quite a few black spots on the leaves. A few days later most of the leaves with spots had fallen off.
I emailed you with photos and received a 'you are in a queue ' message and to date nothing more.

". web page selling page lists size of tree-130-150 cm. received tree 77 cm with some buds but no branches. All compost fell away when planted, no solid root system. I do not know whether it's alive or not. keeping fingers crossed. very disappointed."

"Very disappointed in the size of the tree. The advertised height and picture of what the tree would look like bore no resemblance to what was delivered. The tree was supposed to be 3 years old, It had only one stem (trunk?) with a few buds on. Although I have kept the tree I ended up buying a second Tree from a local garden centre that was twice the size, with branches and looked soooo much healthier! Very disappointed. I ordered from Primrose because of living in the colder north I hoped to get a more developed tree. Proved to be not the case. Lesson learned - buy local.."
