Grape Superior Seedless (white, outdoor) 2L

One of the best dessert grapes, sweet and seedless.

‘Superior Seedless’ is the trademark name of Sugraone, bred in California by Sunworld. It’s recognised as one of the best dessert grapes, each one slightly elongated and green, with a mild muscat flavour, sweet and low in acids. The grapes’ crunchy texture leads to a burst of mouthwatering flavour, perfect served in a fruit salad or with tangy cheeses.

Grape Crimson Seedless (outdoor) 2L

Stunning colour, ideal for growing outdoors in the UK climate.

'Crimson seedless' grapes have elongated pinkish-red fruits with crisp firm skin and juicy pulp. The flavour is very fine being sweetly-tart bordering on spicy. Delicious eaten fresh as a healthy snack or in fruit salads and cheese platters.

This particular grape is a really convenient way to extend grape yields as it develops later than most other grape vines and is a heavy cropper. In fact, we'd recommend a strong wire trellis system or suitably strong alternative and special care in pruning their vigorous vines to keep under control.

Please Note: We provide Crimson Seedless in a smaller pot size at this size of year and the vine may be slightly less developed than the vigorous Superior Seedless.

Caring for Grape Vines

Mulch around the base of the vine with well-rotted garden or farmyard compost every winter. Plant in well-drained soil that has been enriched with garden compost or well-rotted manure.

These rampant climbers need to be pruned for maximum fruit production. To promote fruiting spurs, prune out weak growth back to a few inches from the old wood in late winter.Train the vine on wires by tying in strong growths during the summer.

Where Can I Grow Grapes Outdoors?

Vines can be grown outdoors in southern Britain - the general guide is south of a line between Pembroke and the Wash. However, this area can be extended north if the planting spot is next to a sheltered west or south-facing wall, or in a coastal area influenced by the Gulf Stream. Use later-flowering varieties in borderline regions.

Planting

  • Planting Distance: 1.2m - 1.5m apart in rows 1.5m - 1.8m apart

Grapes prefer well-cultivated and well-drained soil, with a pH of 6.5 - 6.8. They do best in full sun, but well sheltered conditions. Sandy gravel over chalk is an ideal growing site.
Dig a hole at least twice the size of the root ball. Ideally mulch with compost or rotted manure. Firm the bush in well before watering. Cut vine back to 2 or 3 healthy buds to help with the growing process.

You should plant your grapes in early spring, March time if you can, though late autumn could be fine if the weather isn't too cold.

Fruit Benefits

These fruits should be eaten or made into wine within a few days of harvest. They please even the most sophisticated of palates, and can be made into desserts, wines or with dessert grapes can be stored for upto 2 weeks in the fridge. Freshly picked fruit will bring your desserts or wine to life with a flavour that simply can't be matched by mass produced, shop bought fruit.
