Antoninus Pius, Roman Emperor from 138-161 AD, was the adoptive son and successor to Hadrian. He instigated the construction of the Antonine Wall between the Firths of Clyde and Forth. These statues are made using cast limestone with a surface texture similar to that of portland stone. In a number of important ways it is markedly superior, one of its greatest advantages being price, which, piece for piece, is normally significantly less than that of quarried stone. As well as for use in gardens, lawn, terraces, courtyards, borders and woodland, this statue can also be used in interior design schemes, in a hall, library, stairway or reception room.
