Standard Rowan Tree 'Sorbus aucuparia' 45l Pot 12/14 Girth

Sorbus Aucuparia is notorious for its beautiful foliage of green, thin compound leaves supplemented in the summer and autumn by a profusion of jewel-like ruby-red berries. Native to the UK the ‘Rowan Tree’ has caught the hearts and minds of people across Britain for millennia allegedly guarding homes against evil spirits

The traditional rowan, also known as 'Mountain Ash', is a fast growing and incredibly popular tree native to the UK. It's popularity is well merited as it produces an unrivalled autumn display of brilliant red berries which add colour to your garden late into winter where it is often needed.

It's leaves are also beautiful in their own right with a unique shape and vibrant green colour which provide a great contrast to the berries when their paths cross in early autumn.

It's hardiness and ability to thrive in almost any soil make it an easy, quick option for those after a ornamental focal piece sooner, rather than later. A bushy tree, the Rowan will be alive with birds and other wildlife all year round, so pack up the bird table, this tree is all you will need.

As a five year old tree, this pear already has a good root base established. However, the tree will require some attention for the first year as it recovers from the transplant shock, so regular watering is advised. Strong growth will resume after this period, and you should see your tree edging towards full maturity over the next 3-5 years.<

Caring and Maintenance

Water young trees regularly until roots are well established. Trim annually from mid to late summer. Apply some fertilizer in spring in order to promote healthy growth and a good crop. Optionally, mulch in spring. Check tree ties regularly and loosen any if necessary to avoid rubbing of the stems.

Planting

  • Planting Distance: 8m

Suited to almost all, well-drained and moderately fertile soils with pH between 6.5 and 7.5 in an exposed or sheltered location in full sun.
Before planting your tree, clean up all wandering weeds and keep a clean ring around the tree base. Water well during the first year until well established.

Autumn is the best season for planting trees, as the soil moisture and heat allow easier and faster root establishment and regeneration of damaged root systems.
