3x Papyrus - 3x 1L Pot - Cyperus Papyrus

The Papyrus is a tender, aquatic perennial that has clumps of erect stems and small, brown flower heads. It enjoys wet, damp soil, so it is a great plant for bog gardens and pond margins. In the UK it must be overwintered under glass to protect it from the cold. This plant has been awarded the Award of Garden Merit given by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), which helps gardeners make informed choices about plants.

  • Light Requirements: full sun, partial shade
  • Moisture: poorly drained
  • Soil requirements: acidic, neutral, alkaline, clay, loamy, sandy, chalky

  • Planting depth: 30cm
Grow in boggy, moist soil or in a pond in a depth of up to 30cm. This is a great plant for a bog garden or pond margin. It must be overwintered in a greenhouse; see the 'Caring and Maintenance' section below for more details. Aquatic and marginal plants should be placed in pond plant baskets filled with aquatic soil (sold separately) and topped with a thin layer of gravel to help prevent the soil from washing away. This plant is suitable for zones 1, 2 and 3 of a pond.

Caring and Maintenance

This plant must be overwintered in a greenhouse. In autumn, perhaps around November, it should be placed in a greenhouse. In spring it can be placed back in the garden once the cold weather and danger of frosts have passed. Also in autumn you should remove any dead foliage.

RHS Award of Garden Merit

The Award of Garden Merit or AGM is an award made to garden plants by the British Royal Horticultural Society after a period of assessment by the appropriate committees of the Society. Awards are made annually after plant trials (which may last for one or more years, depending on the type of plant being trialled) at RHS Garden, Wisley and other RHS gardens, or after observation of plants in specialist collections. This is intended to judge the plants' performance for conditions in the UK.
