Wall-mounted Patio Heater FAQs
How do wall-mounted patio heaters work?
The most popular wall mounted outdoor heaters are convector, infrared, and gas. Convector heaters warm air inside it and push it out, which is ideal for enclosed spaces like a gazebo, however wouldn’t be recommended for larger open spaces as it would be less effective. This type of heater is easy to control and doesn't store heat.
Infrared heaters convert electricity into radiant heat, warming objects and people rather than air around it. This makes this option more efficient. Gas heaters work by creating heat from a gas flame, again warming objects and people rather than air so is preferred for larger outdoor areas.
Are wall-mounted heaters energy efficient?
Because of their varying specifications, the efficiency of a wall mounted patio heater is efficient can vary from model to model, how often you plan on using it, and for how long. The most energy efficient outdoor heaters are infrared heaters that use heating radiation to warm objects rather than the air around it. Outdoor heaters, like convector heators, that heat the air around it risk losing that warm air as soon as it is turned off, unlike infrared and gas.

Can I leave my wall mounted patio heater outside?
Many wall mounted outdoor heaters are designed to be waterproof and will have been given a weather-proof coating. After all, they are fixed into the wall and it would be a lot of effort to remove it and reinstall it everytime it rains – especially in the UK with unpredictable weather.
If you're worried about it being exposed to outside weather, you can install some products under ceilings and awnings as long as there is enough space for circulation and isn't near combustible materials.
How much clearance do you need above a patio heater?
Because of high temperatures, there should be several feet between a patio heater and other items, including awnings and ceilings. This will prevent any accidental fires or damage, although most modern heaters come with safety settings to avoid events like this from happening.
