To retain a happy and hygienic environment for the wild birds make sure they have an abundance of water. To avoid the spreading of bacteria and diseases make sure to keep the food fresh and dry and that the drinking and feeding areas are cleaned with a mild disinfectant.

Where to site

Site your feeder 2 metres from cover to make the feeder visible, whilst providing a safe place to retreat. Put out food at the start of the day to ensure that birds can replace the energy they have lost overnight.

Feeding tips

With food resources scarcer in winter, it is essential to feed garden birds all year round. Once you have started to feed the birds it is important to continue this, and develop a routine, as the birds will become reliant upon your help.

"Very sturdy and certainly "squirrel proof." Only facilitates the tiniest of birds so I feel a bit guilty that the Great **** etc have to compete with the the squirrels on a open feeder."
