Mice and rats are naturally cautious, so they’re unlikely to walk into rodent traps if they can easily spot them. If a trap can be sidestepped or they’re out in the open, you’ll struggle to effectively trap the mice and rats infesting your garden.

The best place to lay mouse traps is around 2 to 10 feet apart around the most active area of infestation and try to keep them concealed. Mice and rats travel in covered areas such as along walls, fences and bushes, so lay your rat traps along popular routes.

Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed solution to a rodent infestation. Mice and rats are intelligent creatures that can evade traps if not properly laid. You may have to experiment with a few kinds of traps before you find the right solution for your garden.
