With stunning colourful stems, dogwood hedging provides a fantastic point of interest in winter. In the warmer months it will produce white flowers and black berries with ovate green leaves, which colour up nicely in autumn. Native to the UK and henceforth hardy, dogwood can grow in the worst locations and works well as part of a mixed hedge. Cornus mas is slightly different with dainty yellow flowers and cherry-like fruit, which only ripen after harvest. They are best left to dry, but can also be made into jellies, pies and jams.
