One of the earliest rhubarb varieties that can be ready to harvest as early as February. Succulent red-based pink stems with a delicious sweet flavour. An excellent variety for outdoor production and forcing in winter. Once established, Timperley Early will produce masses of delicate slender stems that are tender. An easy to grow variety - performs very well outside but will also excel when forced.
Caring and Maintenance
Water around 1 inch a week. Remove any weeds or rocks and place mulch around the plant in winter if you would like to avoid further weeds. Prune when dormant between late autumn and late winter.
Plant in well-draining soil using the planting distance specified in the characteristics above.
Some shade can be tolerated but more fruit will be produced at a sunny site.
Dig a hole at least twice the size of the rootball, place plant in ensuring the crown is level with the ground. Backfill with soil and firm well before watering. Mulch for best results.
These fruits should be eaten or frozen within a few days of harvest.
