Tree Planting Kit - Tree Stake, Tie and Empathy Rootgrow
Tree Planting Kit

Good root growth and support is vital for new trees until they get established. Trees are one of the costliest plants you’ll buy for your garden and will last longer than your lifetime, so get them off to the best possible start with our Tree Planting Kit.

We’ve put together a kit that’s delivered with your tree* so you can plant straight away with no risk to its delicate rootball.

Included is a 1.2m tree stake, a super-soft tie and Empathy rootgrow™, which includes Mycorrhizal Fungi to encourage enhanced root growth. (Each product can be bought separately with extras from the empathy range.)

Please Note: If you order this product along with a plant or tree that is available at a later date, this product will be delivered at the same time.
The Kit Contains:

  • One Tree Stake and Tie Kit - 1.2m
  • 60g Empathy rootgrow™ Mycorrhizal Fungi
One Tree Stake and Tie Kit - 1.2m Wind damage can kill young trees by snapping new, brittle roots, as they haven’t had time to anchor themselves into the ground. These are the roots that supply the plant with food and water, causing massive stress on the plant. This kit will give your tree all the support it needs while a strong, healthy root base spreads into surrounding soil.

The specially made, figure of eight super-soft trees ties gently support the trunk without damaging the bark, unlike cheaper versions. They allow slight swaying which encourages fibrous roots and a stronger overall system.

60g Empathy rootgrow™ Mycorrhizal Fungi

Mycorrhizal fungi are no longer a secret of professional gardeners. Mycorrhizae are fungi which live in a symbiotic (beneficial) relationship with plants. The fungi take sugars from the plants and in return, the plants get moisture and nutrients gathered by the fungal strands, which act as extensions to the root system.

By sprinkling a little Rootgrow onto the root system when planting, you can ensure fantastic root growth and the healthiest plant possible - naturally.

Benefits include better water and nutrient uptake and enhanced flowering and cropping. It’s a must for the organic gardener, as plants will survive better in drought and are less likely to fall victim to pests and diseases.

Our quick video will give you a better understanding of what Mycorrhizal fungi is and how it can help your plant.

Application of Empathy rootgrow™ Mycorrizal Fungi
Follow these simple steps to planting success with Rootgrow™
  • 1. Dig planting hole as normal.
  • 2. Sprinkle just enough granules to cover the base of the plant in the bottom of the hole. Do not mix in.
  • 3. Place the plant in the hole directly on top of the granules. The granules must come into direct contact with the roots.
  • 4. Backfill as normal with compost/soil.
  • 5. If using additional fertiliser add as a top dress or in backfill.
  • 6. Add mulch as required.

"Plant came well staked, but its virtually impossible to tell at this stage if the Rootgrow will have any benefit."

"Same as before, only just planted the tree so the results may be some time yet. The stake could have been a bit sturdier, but it does the job."

"The stake and the tie are of a good quality. The stake is sturdy and I didn't see any knots so was able to drive it into the ground using a big-ish hammer. The rubber tie is well made and easy to use. The pouch of fertiliser was a lot smaller than I was expecting... I've just had a look at the photo and it is deceptive. The rubber tie is probably the same size as the pouch (from memory) and the stake is completely out of proportion with the other 2 items!! I guess as long as the pouch contains the 'correct' amount of fertiliser then the size of the pouch doesn't really matter. My main reason for only giving 3 stars, however, is the price. I could quite easily have fashioned my own stake out of a piece of wood, I could have used compost (I have my own compost bin) instead of purchasing fertiliser and the tree would have probably been fine without either to be fair! And I'm sure I'd have found something adequate to tie the tree to the stake with! So when I saw the price of this "tree planting kit", my first thought is that it is a bit of a joke. I could understand charging perhaps half the current price and I wouldn't have even thought twice about ordering one. I got it purely for convenience sake. Perhaps Primrose relies on the extra profit margin they attain through selling these kits as part of their business model, so that they can sell trees relatively cheaply and people are obviously free to choose whether they purchase the additional kits or not. Overall, therefore, I gave the service 4 stars."
