Barbara Dobbins Water Lily Nymphaea ‘Barbara Dobbins’ - 3L Pot

The beautifully ethereal Barbara Dobbins water lily is a delicate damsel with endurance. Despite the ghostly feminine shades which colour her petals, the Barbara Dobbins is a hardy little water lily, more than capable of surviving harsh winters, and churning out continuous breath-taking bloom from May to October. This small lily can spread to around 1.5m, making it perfect for medium to larger ponds. Its mesmerising flowers poke 16cm out from the surface of the water and deliver a pleasant scent. • Optimum Planting Depth: initial 12-76cm, then move to 45-90cm

Water lilies prefer still water but can withstand a mild flow, such as a slow moving river, however they should not be planted too close to waterfalls and fountains. Planting aquatic plants and lilies is not difficult. Using mesh baskets for aquatic plants helps to control the growth of the plant as they spread rapidly through a number of rhizomes, creating new colonies. The baskets should be filled with aquatic soil (sold separately) and topped with a thin layer of gravel to help prevent the soil from washing away. Young water lilies should be started in shallow water and lowered gradually over several weeks for the best planting results.

This plant is suitable for zone 4 of a pond.

Caring and Maintenance:

Water lilies are very low maintenance plants. Remove dead leaves and faded flowers before they start to rot to maintain the condition of water and reduce the algae growth. They are self-seeding plants which can be also be propagated by rhizome division. It is easy to keep the growth of the plant under control, as cuttings of wandering stems can be made at almost any time of the year.

The water lily grows in the deeper part of your pond and is undeniably the most spectacular natural water feature imaginable. Its beautiful flowers refine the look of the pond whilst its floating leaves create a good shelter for fish and other aquatic life. They are also valuable plants for reducing algae growth.

Please Note: the plants will arrive ready to be placed directly in the pond.
