Winter Jasmine | Jasminium Nudiflorum
Lovely winter interest plant suitable for shady locations
The flowers of Jasminium nudiflorum, also known as 'Winter Jasmine', will bring colour and life to your garden, even on the darkest winter days when nothing else seems to grow. The small, delicate, yellow flowers appear in January and are accompanied by gorgeous, dark-green, glossy foliage that will easily fill empty spaces in beds or borders.
This vigorous climber is easy to grow and easy to train up over pillars, arches or trellises but would look equally as impressive if left to grow freely as a scrambling bush or up over a wall. If space is limited this versatile plant can be grown in containers and placed on a patio. Hardy and reliable it will thrive in both the full sun or partial shade and is suited to most soils.
A brilliant feature of this Jasmine plant is that it is both winter flowering and wildlife friendly. At the start of the year, when plants are sparse, and there is very little else about, it blooms; attracting bees and other pollinating insects helping to support them.

- Hardiness: The varieties of Jasmine we stock are native to colder environments, so they will be fully hardy in the UK climate.
- Position: Jasminum nudiflorum (winter jasmine) will flower even in partially shaded, cold sites, while Trachelospermum jasminoides and other species of Jasmine benefits from full sun, but will suffice in dappled shade.
- Soil: Soil types can be an unwelcome confusion as many plants will adapt to their conditions. Nonetheless, less than ideal conditions will certainly limit your plant’s growth. Waterlogged soils will starve it of oxygen, which plays a key role in photosynthesis; causing its roots to rot and creating an optimal environment for disease.
Advice on hot and droopy plants
If your plants are looking a little wilted right now, don’t worry! Plants like to be filled with water to keep their structure, and when it’s hot that water evaporates.
Just give them an off-schedule watering and they’ll be right as rain in no time! Be careful not to flood them - plants don’t like extremes.
