Prunus Cerasifera Pissardi - 90L Standard - 12/14cm Girth (Purple Leaved Cherry Plum)

The ornamental cherry plum has become one of the most popular trees on the market over the past few years. Its deserved fame is due to its deep burgundy oval leaves, white flowers and rich raspberry center, which create a visually intoxicating juxtaposition. It's not to be confused with the Cerasifera Nigra (which also boasts an elegant contrast of rich colour).

The tree needs almost no maintenance at all and has no special soil requirements, which makes the deciduous plant ideal for someone with a lack of spare time or who is unable to dedicate themselves to regular, thorough pruning.

The Cerasifera Pissardi has a rounded form and it will grow to an estimated height and spread of 5 x 4 metres over the course of 3-5 years. This tree is tolerant of most positions and pollution; the purple leaved plum will do well almost anywhere. It really is a masterpiece of an ornamental tree for any space creating a wonderful foliage foil for other plants and a breathtaking spring display.

This particular tree is one from our mature ornamental tree range. If you want a substantial flowering cherry in your garden, but don't want to have to wait too long for it to grow, then this is a great option for you. This tree is already over 4 meters in height and has a crown of multiple, good sized branches already developed. Pictured in early spring, you can see the fantastic red foliage and buds already formed which will produce a beautiful display of blossom this year and a display that will grow and grow over the years.

As a 7 year old tree, this cherry already has a good root base established. However, the tree will require some attention for the first year as it recovers from the transplant shock, so regular watering is advised. Strong growth will resume after this period, and you should see your tree edging towards full maturity over the next 3-5 years.

We deliver straight to you door, which is just as well because this huge tree wouldn't fit in most vans, let alone the average family car. And the best thing about this is, we only charge £5 for delivery, and you'll have your tree within 2-3 working days of ordering - no one else on the web offers a service like this for trees of this size!

Caring and Maintenance

Water young trees regularly until roots are well established. Trim annually from mid to late summer. Apply some fertilizer in spring in order to promote healthy growth and a good crop. Optionally, mulch in spring. Check tree ties regularly and loosen any if necessary to avoid rubbing of the stems.

  • Planting Distance: 8m

Suited to almost all, well-drained and moderately fertile soils with pH between 6.5 and 7.5 in an exposed or sheltered location in full sun.
Before planting your tree, clean up all wandering weeds and keep a clean ring around the tree base. Water well during the first year until well established.

Autumn is the best season for planting trees, as the soil moisture and heat allow easier and faster root establishment and regeneration of damaged root systems.
