Overview

Creating a wonderful specimen in the winter garden, the bare stems of this Himalayan birch will provide a striking wintery silhouette, which can be further enhanced by underplanting with snowdrops. Unlike many of the other birches, this one takes just 3 or 4 years to develop its snowy colour, so it makes a good choice if you are impatient to move things along. It will eventually grow into a big tree, but as the canopy remains light and airy, and does not grow to the same height as a single-stemmed 'Doorenbos'.

Care guide

Birches require little maintenance, but you may want to remove any diseased or crossing branches. It is essential that any pruning work is carried out between late summer and mid-winter as the sap will 'bleed' heavily at other times. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake well.

Pots and Packaging
Larger pots (2L and above) are wrapped in waxed paper and then attached to a cardboard base so they stay stable in the box. The waxed paper prevents the compost from spilling out and gives the base some added protection from damp compost. For large numbers of plants, pallets may be used for shipping.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.
