Keep birds away from your plants and property with our humane and effective bird deterrents. Our deterrents are designed to scare birds away without harming them. Choose from a variety of options, including bird netting, reflective tape, and sonic deterrents, to find the best solution for your needs.
The first thing to do is try to impede the heron’s access to the surface of the pond. Vertical sides and low water levels will help with this, but it can be inconvenient for other wildlife and the sides will need to be reinforced to prevent collapse.
Electric fences and tripwires can be used to prevent access, as well as pond crop netting which can cover either the full pond or just the perimeter. Tall shrubs will also make herons wary of the area as they may think that predators could be lurking.
If you keep fish in your pond, they could be in danger from herons. Herons will fish in any pond for their next meal, so if you want to keep your pond fish safe you’ll need to make sure they have a good reason to avoid your pond!
There is no one size fits all solution to scaring herons away from your pond. We recommend accommodating your pond to make it as unappealing as possible to herons in the first place, then experimenting with one or two heron deterrents.
