What Are Perennials?

Plants can either be annual, biennial or perennial. It''s important to be able to differentiate between these three in order to plan your garden more efficiently.

The Chelsea Chop

The Chelsea chop is a pruning technique used to encourage plants to flower later in the season. Named after the Chelsea Flower Show in May, it's typically done around late spring. Gardeners cut back early-flowering perennials, such as phlox and sedums, to delay their bloom time, promote bushier growth, and extend the flowering period into late summer.
