Overview

Single purple thistle-like flowers with black fringe. Native grassland perennial found in meadows, scrub land and on woodland edges. This tough wildflower can be variable, but normally it has a whorl of brown/black bracts topped with a light purple/pink inflorescence, which sometimes can be white. Definitely a plant for your wildlife garden, or any garden that wants to attract the birds and bees. Once the flowerhead fades, the seedheads are loved by the birds but also this does mean that it can freely self seed.

Care guide

Wild flowers prefer poor soils, so do not apply fertiliser. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. In autumn, cut the faded flowerheads down to the ground and compost the dead stems.

Pots and Packaging
Our 9cm pots are given extra packaging to protect the plant. This extra packaging consists of a recyclable plastic blister pack which is then placed in a cardboard box for delivery.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.

Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above.
