Overview

A late summer soft fruit bush with thornless stems and juicy blackberries. As well as producing a crop of delicious blackberries in late summer and early autumn, this popular variety has thorn-free stems, which makes it ideal for smaller gardens, trellises or even archways. The foliage is ornamental, and the white, early summer flowers are also decorative, but the berries are the stars! Medium in size, they have a juicy flesh and a mild flavour, which makes them perfect for eating fresh or for making pies and jams.

Care guide

Bare-root plants should be planted out as soon as they arrive. If this is not possible, they can be heeled in temporarily (covering their roots with soil) or potted up. Before planting, soak the rootball in a bucket of water for half an hour and make sure to incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole. Remove all weeds and allow 3m between each plant and 1.8m between rows. Once planted, shorten the canes to about 23cm (9in). Each spring, mulch well with well-rotted manure. Plants flower on one-year-old wood, so the new canes need to be separated from fruiting ones. After cropping, cut the fruiting canes down to the ground and tie in the new ones that have grown that year.

Bare root plants are either wrapped in plastic bags or waxed paper where possible and then placed into a cardboard box.

Preparation
The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage.
