Cool-season drama erupts with an unexpected twist of lilac-blue, transforming winter landscapes from dull to dazzling.
Cyclamen 'Dragon Blue' defies seasonal expectations, delivering a rare colour palette that pulses with cool-toned vibrancy across pots, windowboxes, and sheltered garden edges.
This resilient winter performer flourishes in bright, indoor spaces as well as protected outdoor spots, producing prolonged blooms that challenge conventional winter colour norms with its distinctive bluish-lilac tones.
Cyclamen thrive in well-draining, organic-rich potting compost or soil, with bright, indirect light, avoiding direct sunlight that can scorch leaves. These plants prefer cool conditions, ideally between 60-65°F (15-18°C), and can tolerate temperatures down to 40°F (4°C), but should be protected from frost.
Water your cyclamen when the top of the soil feels dry, watering individual pots from the bottom or around the edges to avoid wetting the crown. Never leave the pot sitting in water to prevent root rot. These plants appreciate higher humidity, so consider placing them on a pebble tray with water.
Cyclamen are sensitive to overwatering, so it's better to slightly underwater than overwater. During the growing season, feed every month with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser.
Gently removing spent flowers and their stems from the base, as well as any yellowing leaves. While the plant can be kept after flowering, it is often best used as a colourful seasonal annual or winter gift as it prefers a period of dormancy during the late spring and summer.
This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in the summer, then fresh new growth will appear again in the spring.
