Care guide

Keep picking and/or deadheading throughout the summer for strong flowering performance and cut all stems back after flowering. Gaillardia thrives in nutrient-poor soil, so resist the temptation to mulch or fertilise. seedheads are superb winter food source for birds, once established 'Burgunder' is drought tolerant.

  • Sowing instructions: Sow indoors from February to April, 5mm deep into moist well-rained seed compost. Keep in a propagator or seal in a polythene bag between 15-20 °C and keep moist for 2-4 weeks until germination. Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle into 9cm pots to grow on Acclimatise and plant out once the risk of frost has passed.
