Grow your own Grey Oyster Mushrooms with our indoor, ready to grow kit. Our kits give you all you need to grow and harvest your own crop of edible fungi within 10-21 days of opening. Perfect as gifts for non-green-fingered enthusiasts and cooks alike!

Specifications

Grey Oyster Mushrooms are easy to grow. They’ve a classic mushroom flavour and are brilliantly versatile in all areas of cooking. Keep your kit in a light and airy spot where you’ll remember to water it twice a day and watch it grow. These mushrooms don’t need to be grown in the dark – kept indoors, in a kitchen is the perfect environment – giving them the right light and temperature to thrive. Once you have grown your first flush of mushrooms, you can follow the instructions to attempt a second or even third flush. Expect to harvest at least 200-250g of over a few harvests. These are culinary mushrooms and have no known hallucinogenic properties. For best results, your kit will need to be opened within 3 days of receipt. Alternatively, they can be stored in the fridge but must be used within one month. A full set of instructions can be found inside your kit bag. All paper and card can be recycled with your standard card recycling. The plastic bag can be cleaned and recycled with your soft plastic recycling. The outer bag and substate block can be composted or disposed of along with your normal food waste.

Care guide

When you receive your kit you must open within three days. Keep chilled before opening, ideally at around 5°C. Ideal growing temperature parameters are 17-22°C (62-72°F). Lower temperatures can lead to slower growth and higher temps can lead to the substrate and mushrooms drying out, if not sufficiently watered during the day and growing period - increase watering in warmer temperatures.Open your kit following the instructions with clean scissors. Do not carve, dig or scratch into substrate surface, and do not remove or peel back the opening of the grow bag. This opening will allow enough air and water into the substrate to initiate fruiting. Place your kit in a light position and out of direct sunlight (they don’t need to be grown in the dark). Mist the opening of yourkit at least twice a day with water. You can expect to see the primordia of your mushrooms forming within 14 days. Continue to water your mushrooms once they begin to form and until you harvest them, give a light misting twice a day during the growing phase. Harvest your mushrooms once the largest in the flush begin to flatten out at the edge of the mushroom and before they begin to dry out. Remove all mushrooms at once, the smaller mushrooms will not continue to grow once some have been harvested. For our outdoor log kit option, mushroom logs like to be kept moist and will need watering along with the rest of your plants throughout the year and especially throughout any dry spells. Keep your log protected from harsh winds and out of direct sunlight.

Our Log Dowel Growing Kit is designed for outdoor use for those wishing to grow naturally using their own cut (unseasoned) logs with no signs of damage or other fungal growth, and contains: 30 inoculated timber dowels inside a sterilized plastic grow bag with filter patch, wax, sponge applicator, full set of growing instructions, postage box and branded sleeve. We advise using fresh or recently felled (up to 8 weeks) hardwood logs up to 50cm in length(10-20cm in diameter) such as alder, hazel, hornbeam, oak, cherry, beech, birch or chestnut. We recommend avoiding sycamore, ash, conifers or softwoods. Please note that holes will need to be pre-drilled to accommodate the dowels (we recommend an8.5mm drill bit). Using the dowel method, we deliberately introduce our mushroom mycelium into the body of freshly felled timber, making sure it stands the best chance of success. You should expect to see your first mushrooms from1 year to 18 months after your logs have been inoculated. Once fruiting, you could be harvesting fresh mushrooms for approximately 3 years. Please note: Itis not recommended to mix different strains of mushroom dowels within one log. If want to grow a variety of mushrooms, we advise allocating only one type per log.
